The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
“Still very topical. I found the slang difficult at first but as I got in to the book I really felt that Starr was talking to me. It was interesting that there wasn’t a ‘happy ending’ and the point was made that it can be really hard to make good decisions when you are living in a deprived area and facing racial prejudice. I did like the character of Chris who really tried to see things from the point of view of Starr and her Garden Heights friends.”
