This book was amazing! The characters felt so real and human. You felt their grief and sadness and joy. I loved how the paper cranes were interwoven into the story and I thought it was great how the characters grew as a family. I would definitely recommend this book to years 5/6

Amazing book. I loved both of the main characters but particularly warmed to Tom. I loved seeing his character grow. I would definitely recommend this book. Although heartbreaking in parts, it was also an uplifting and ultimately an addictive read!

Amazing! Loved this book from start to finish - had to go straight out and buy another one of the author's books as it resonated with me so well.

A superbly written account of the struggles faced by two children trying to connect with their newly blended family situation.

Sensitively and realistically written. The 2 main characters are painted so well - you feel like you know them. Great to have a male character with anxiety - what a role model

An amazing story that tackles real issues that children and families face. Characters that come to life, that the reader really feels for and invests in.

This was a charming story about two children becoming family and growing from strangers to friends. Personally I found the narrative a bit repetitive.

A powerful exploration of childhood worries, traumas, fears and misconceptions, who h could easily have been a dark and difficult read in another writer’s hands. Katya Balen deals with her characters and their complex issues with subtlety and care, always showing, never telling and entwining the reader deeply into the lives of her characters. A beautiful and necessary book.

Beautiful! A story that explores grief, domestic abuse and blended families. Year 6 appropriate if handled carefully. Two very different children who come together in the end.

One of the best books I have ever read! Made me laugh and made me cry! Utterly brilliant!

I loved the interplay between the two characters and the way the narrative was told from their two different perspectives. While this is common in adult literature, it is less familiar in children's books, and it seemed to offer huge potential for exploring characters' emotions and teaching empathy. Tom and Zofia were beautifully written and their experiences and emotions were vivid, moving and absorbing. A stunning read!

Wow. Absolutely loved this. Not ashamed to admit tears were present. A beautiful , emotional tale of the trials and tribulations of a blended family. One of my favourite reads of the summer. I will be buying for our school library.

I have loved every Katya Balen book that I have read. She tackles such big things but with such quiet skill and you savour every word. Loved this book and cried.
