Loved this fictional book, found the book in my local library and was reading it with my 10 year old. We could not put the book down, the twists and turns throughout the story opened your imagination up to so many possibilities. Amari is a strong-willed, true leader and the writer brought her brilliance to life so well.

Flipping heck - why has it taken so long to read this. It is amazing! Harry Potter fans this is better! Amari is a black girl from teh wrong side of NY, she has however got a scholarship to the same school her brother did. But Amari isn't Quinton, school is difficult. Quinton is missing, he has been for 6 months, the police think he was doing something illegal, to send money home but Amari knows he wouldn't do that. Then she gets a message from Quinton and a nomination for a very special 'school', a school for those with magic. But just what is Amari's special skill - does she really have one? Follow Amari through the school where she wants to be an Agent so she can find her brother. It's her goal, that's it no other department. But again, school is difficult, especially because of her skill. Brilliant book, magical and descriptive. Loved it. On to book 2 right now!

I really enjoyed this book. The world of magic is very much dominated by HP but I think this series will give readers a new take on that fantasy/adventure genre.

I really enjoyed this book. Amari is wonderful, smart and determined. Good twists, perfect for age 9-12 who enjoy superhero, magical or spy/mystery adventure stories. Fans of Artemis Fowl, Kid Normal etc...will enjoy this.

Amari and the Night Brothers is a fantastic book filled with magic and adventure. My favourite character was Amari herself, who was determined, courageous and honest throughout. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of the Harry Potter or Nevermoor series.

A brilliant book. Future classic. Terrific characters and a rich and gripping mystery. BB Alston has done a terrific job of world building as well-- the early forays into The Bureau of Supernatural Affairs reminded me of reading Harry Potter books when I was younger; that said, it has its own distinct voice and a compelling story to tell. I hope this is the start of a long series of adventures with Amari and the world that Alston has created.

Absolutely the most terrific book I've read so far this year! Fantastic, well-rounded characters, and a story that you just cannot put down. Amari is the kind of kid you want your own to grow up to be.

I really enjoyed this magical adventure in which Amari tries to find out why her brother has mysteriously disappeared. At the same time she must find her place and make friends in a new world, whilst learning to have the confidence to be herself.

While I totally agree there is a gap in children's literature for BAME superheroes and female role models, I afraid I didn't think this book filled the gap. It was published this year and I wonder if Covid affected it's editing process, there was a huge number of word mistakes, spelling mistakes and context mistakes, even a misspelling of one of the main characters names! I felt it took too much influence from books and films such as Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter, Men in Black and others for it too be truly original. The cover and blurb promised so much but it was a bit of a disappointment :-(

A thrilling and intriguing story, with some great twists and turns and an ending that leaves you wanting more. A young girl who is desperate to find out more about her brother’s disappearance ends up attending the same ‘summer camp’ as him, uncovering a magical secret in the process. As good overcomes evil, worlds collide and new mysteries arise…what will happen next?

An excellent fantasy read! Amari is sucked into a hidden magical world in search of her brother. She discovers she is a magician and has to compete to become a 'Junior Agent' and discover more about her brother's mysterious dissapearance. If you like Harry Potter and the Nevermoor series, this is for you!
