about a king whose tomb archaeologists are desperately hunting for. Lil and her friends must embark on an incredible journey - to return the package to its resting place, to protect those they love, and to break the deadly pharaoh's curse .

I read this book as preparation for a Year 4 autumn topic, and I was really impressed with the richness of the text. The language is very appropriate for middle juniors, accessible enough and challenging with it's themes of ancient Egypt. The book explores a fictionalised life of Tutankhamen via some 'ancient writings' and is set in 1922, the year of Carter's discovery of the tomb. In addition to opening up the ancient Egyptians, this book touches on gender and racial discrimination, the ethics of 'tomb hunting' and issues of belief around curses. An excellent text to share with a class.
