Auggie is a fantastic character who, despite his difficulties, finds friends and independence in a wonderful story.

I read this book more than 5 years ago but I vividly remember how easy it was to get into the story and the sympathy I felt not just for the main characters but also for those around him. It was especially interesting to see how some of them grew in their perspective and how getting to really know Auggie made them realise that appearances can be deceptive and that "what is essential is invisible to the eye".

I read this in advance of teaching it in year 5. It’s fabulous! I watched the film afterwards which doesn’t do the book justice imo.

It’s been a few years since I last read this lovely book. Fabulous use of different voices to tell the story

I found this to be an amazing book, but a very difficult read due to the difficulties August had with others in his day to day life. I would definitely recommend it to everybody to read to show that everyone is different and we should embrace the differences and not segregate people.

Wonder was an absolute gem for my Year 5 class, securing a well-deserved 5/5 stars. Suitable for ages 10 and above, this heartwarming story touched the hearts of the class with its powerful message of acceptance and kindness. Through the eyes of protagonist August Pullman, readers are taken on a journey of self-discovery and compassion. The authentic characters and emotive storytelling sparked important conversations about empathy and inclusion. "Wonder" is not just a book; it's a reminder of the beauty of humanity and the importance of embracing our differences. Truly a must-read for all ages.

Enjoyed how it’s written in first person and you can really see the perspective. I found Auggie the most likely and interesting. You can feel all of the emotions and worries through the author’s choice of vocabulary.

This a fantastic book which really makes you think about how we treat those who are different. I like the fact that it is from different points of view throughout the story. Augie is an inspiring character. I would definitely recommend this book- even if you have seen the film.

A thoughtful story that entices the reader with eventful character journeys told from different perspectives, challenging preconceived notions and encouraging the reader to join the protagonists on their journeys.

A beautiful story. I personally connected with Via, but loved how compelling the intertwined perspectives were.

I've read parts of this with children at school but never the whole book from beginning to end. I am so glad I chose to read it properly. You get to know the characters so early on and feel completely invested in Auggie's story from the 1st chapter. It's such an inspiring story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the way parts of the story are told by the different characters. I also loved following Auggie's journey through the year. A really fantastic read.

So much better than the film (but the film is great too!)

A wonder-ful book that covers a very challenging subject. Auggie was born with a genetic disorder that makes him look very different. The book is told from the point of view of August and several other characters about their experiences during August first year at school. Until the 5th grade August was was home schooled but his Mum and Dad have decided it would be beneficial for August to start school at this point as all the children would be new to middle school. The book follows the journey of August and his peers and family members as they experience this new chapter in Augusts life. This book is a wonderful way to brooch the subject of difference. We are all different but when your difference means you are stared at by everyone how is it possible to overcome these differences. What is what wonder explores. It explores kindness and acceptance of yourself or others. It explores the idea of change and grow in both negative and positive ways. It explores the idea of everyone being part of life and how choices are important. It is a great books. I would recommend everyone to read it. It has such important messages in that I think everyone would benefit from thinking and reflecting on.

Easy reading, would highly recommend. Did get me thinking about how we always assume what other people are thinking, and this isn’t always the case.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio is an enchanting and accessible book that is great for young readers. It beautifully explores themes of kindness, acceptance, and the power of friendship in a simple yet compelling narrative. The story of August Pullman, a young boy with Treacher Collins syndrome, is told in a way that is relatable and thought-provoking for readers of all ages. One standout character in Wonder is Summer Dawson, who quickly became my favourite. Summer embodies kindness, empathy, and a genuine desire to connect with others. Her unwavering support and friendship towards August are inspiring, as she sees beyond appearances and embraces his uniqueness. Summer serves as a role model for young readers, teaching them the importance of empathy and acceptance in building meaningful relationships. I wholeheartedly recommend Wonder to young readers and adults alike. It is a book that will touch your heart and leave a lasting impression, reminding us of the power of friendship and the beauty of embracing differences. Whether you're seeking an engaging story or a poignant reminder of the importance of acceptance, Wonder is a must-read that will resonate with readers of all ages.

This was an emotional read and I felt the strength of Auggie's character. A great realistic fiction title to get young people thinking about how we treat those we deem to be different.

Touching and insightful.

This book allowed me to experience a range of emotions - empathy for Boy Wonder and pride in how the other children overcame their feelings towards him and his disfigurement. Whilst it was fictional, it resonates with issues seen in many school nowadays - cleft palate repair, children who have facial blemishes or those who may have a lot of medical need, allowing children to possible reflect on their perceptions and misunderstanding of how people with disabilities do have feelings and are able. I would definitely recommend this book.
